The Next Step
My name is Esmeralda Munoz and I was born and raised in Lindsay CA, a small town where about 10,000 people reside. When I was about eight years old my mom and dad divorced, in the beginning I hated the idea of having to travel back and forth every so often, but after a while I didn't mind so much. Though I have lived in Lindsay my whole life and have had many great memories and experiences I don't see myself living here my whole life, there is a whole world out there for me that I can't wait to explore.
Lindsay is a very small town, most of the people that live here all know each other or know of each other and most are related. For example, when my mom was in high school she had many friends that are still living here today that she's still close too. Some of them still keep in contact and when they do, they tell us stories about how when they were in high school and I like to compare how different it is now to when they were in school. Sometimes they even talk about some of their friends that are teachers in Lindsay schools today, so I find that to be very amusing. As of members of my family that live here, we all stay very close and always get together for barbecues, birthday parties, and other events.
Ever since I've lived in Lindsay, I've went to the same elementary school then went to middle school, and then high school, I never moved or had the opportunity to be the new girl because I always knew practically everyone in that town whether from just seeing them around, hearing about them or actually being their friend. All throughout elementary school I had the same friends. When I got to middle school my group of friends changed, I gained the friendship of kids that were older than me. In middle school things got switched up, instead of going to middle school for two years our class only went for one year because the district decided to make six elementary schools that are now k-8 which made us all separate again and go back to elementary school sites. Now that I'm in highschool I feel that I've been very involved. I was in cheerleading my first two years, ASB my last two years, Fashion club my freshman year, and also Key club my freshman and senior year.
A couple of things that have helped me be the person I am are that when my parents got divorced and when my mom got remarried, I feel that I have put more of my energy and efforts into after school curriculum. My dad wouldn't really allow my sister and I to do extra, he's more old fashion so I feel like now with my mom I’m more comfortable and open with her. For some reason I just enjoy always being busy and having something to do so I thought what better than to put my energy into volunteering. Living in Lindsay has both it’s ups and downs, I hope to make many more great memories in this small town and continue to grow and learn as a person in this world.
